INSURANCE & EXCESS INFORMATION

Included in our daily rental rate is comprehensive insurance for your rental vehicle as well as third party insurance. Our standard insurance excess is $2,500 - but you might like to upgrade to our Friendly or Popular options to reduce your liability.

Choose Your Insurance Option:

Option A - Standard

Included at no additional charge.

Insurance liability of up to $2,500 if the vehicle is involved in an accident or is damaged under the renter's responsibility. Payment is required immediately.

Option B - Friendly

Includes glass and tyre cover.

For $24 per day, reduce your insurance liability down to $1,000 in the event of an accident or damage. Hire your vehicle with peace of mind knowing you will not be liable for the full insurance excess should your vehicle get damaged. Windscreen and tyre damage is covered under this insurance option.

Option C - Popular

Recommended option.
Includes glass and tyre cover.

For $49 per day, reduce you insurance liability to zero. Recommended option. In the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle, you will not be required to pay any insurance excess.  Windscreen and tyre damage is covered under this insurance option.

All our Standard rental vehicles have a 5-Star ANCAP Safety Rating - the highest vehicle safety rating in New Zealand.

FAQs

When do I select my insurance cover?
Insurance options can be selected when you book your vehicle online. Your credit card will be authorised for the amount of the applicable Insurance Excess at the time of rental.

What does Ingham Rentals insurance cover?
All Ingham Rentals insurance options cover damage to or loss of the vehicle you are driving and any third party vehicles involved in the accident.

Is windscreen cover included?
Glass damage is only covered by the Friendly Option and the Popular Option.

Is tyre cover included?
Tyre damage is only covered by the Friendly Option and the Popular Option.

Are personal injuries covered?
The costs of dealing with personal injuries from accidents that occur in New Zealand are covered by New Zealand's Accident Compensation (ACC) scheme.

What is not included?
Insurance is not covered in the event of one or more of the exclusions listed below.


Insurance exclusions:

The indemnities referred to above shall not apply and the Renter’s liability is increased to the replacement cost of the vehicle up to a maximum of $5,000 where the damage, injury or loss arises when:

a) The driver of the vehicle is under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any other substance that affects his or her ability to drive the vehicle;
b) The vehicle is in an unsafe or unroad-worthy condition, which arises during the rental period, of which the Renter is aware, or should be aware of, and which causes or contributes to further damage or loss;
c) The vehicle is operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest;
d) The vehicle is driven by any person not named on the Rental Agreement;
e) The vehicle is driven by any person who, at the time he or she drives the vehicle, is disqualified from holding, or does not hold a driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle, or drives outside the conditions associated with the license type held;
f) The vehicle is willfully or recklessly damaged by the Renter, any person named on the Rental Agreement or any other person driving the vehicle under the authority of the Renter;
g) The vehicle is lost or stolen as a result of willful or reckless behaviour of the Renter or any such person;
h) The vehicle is operated outside the term of the rental period, or any agreed extension of the term;
i) The vehicle is operated in breach of the Rental Agreement;
j) The driver is charged with an infringement or offence as a result of an accident.
k) The vehicle is operated on any of the following roads: Tasman Valley Rd (Mt Cook), Skippers Canyon Rd (Queenstown), or any unformed road or any beach including Ninety Mile Beach;
l) Any damage is caused during the fitting of snow chains or roof racks on the vehicle during the rental period, and;
m) The vehicle is damaged as a result of any single vehicle incident or accident;
n) In the event of a single vehicle accident the cost of towing and/or salvage of the vehicle will also be at the Renter’s expense
